2008 Berkshire County AIDS Walk & Rally
This year's AIDS Walk & Rally will take place on Saturday, September 13th at the Pittsfield Common on First Street. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and we'll step off together at 10. The route goes down First Street and across to Park Square for a brief "rally" then returns to the Common via North and Eagle Streets.
The rally in Park Square will feature remarks by Mayor James Ruberto and invited speakers as well as an opportunity for individuals present to share their thoughts. The rally will conclude with the traditional reading of the names and release of balloons in memory of those individuals from Berkshire County who have passed on. Upon our return to the Common, we'll enjoy refreshments, live music, kids' activities, and massage.
The annual AIDS Walk is the only fundraiser for HIV services in Berkshire County each year. Education is crucial to stopping the spread of the virus, yet the Berkshires hasn't received state funding for HIV prevention education since 2000. All proceeds from this year's walk will be used for public education and prevention activities.
